It was 55 degrees today at noon; cloudy and damp with a little fog. This November has set records for being wet. November is normally our wettest month but was even more so this year. The water in the river has just fallen back into its banks after being at or near flood stage most of the month. I was at a meeting last evening with folks from the mountains in the western part of Maine and they told me that even the peaks did not have snow.
A steady rain today one of those foggy, cold, damp days that we always seem to have in November. The good news is that it is not real cold (52 degrees right now) which is pretty easy on the wood pile. We are having a steady southeast wind at around 20 miles per hour driving the rain. Not a bad day to be working at my desk. I realized this weekend that I have transitioned from guiding full time to working indoors. I was feeling unsettled by the change but did not realize that it had happened. It is not a time with nothing to do but a change in what I do each day.
This weekend we had quite a gale with winds of over 50 miles an hour from Saturday afternoon to late Sunday. Most of Saturday we had torrential rain that was as much horizontal as vertical. I knew that the seas would be something to see so Argy and I took a ride down to Pemaquid Point Saturday afternoon. There were waves that I would guess to be about twenty feet high and a few higher ones crashing in on the rocks. There was pelting rain and salt spray flying through the air. We stood behind the brick fog signal so that we would not be blown back by the wind.
