See newborn bears live in the wild!

The Wildlife Research Foundation is a group formed to increase our knowledge of the wildlife that is so important to the Maine economy. They have been able to install a web camera in a remote bear den in Northern Maine that allows all of us to watch the mother and newborn cubs (January 16th) in the den. Take a look.

The warm winter had started to feel a little unnatural. Our daytime temperatures were in the forties during the day and rarely going below twenty at night. While easy on the firewood supply it simply did not feel like winter in Maine. All of that has changed at least for the time being. We had snow on Thursday; not a lot but six or so inches followed by freezing rain on Friday that made travelling to Portland with Argy an adventure.

You just never know what will walk by

As a long time grouse hunting guide I have frequently been frustrated by the fact that the birds are hard to find on a warm sunny afternoon. I have looked in all kinds of cover and often wondered if they spend the afternoon in the trees watching the dogs and I search for them.
