A spring snow!

It is snowing hard this morning with large fluffy flakes of wet snow that fall like feathers. The good news is that it is not especially cold and with the warm weather of the last few days many spots are warm enough to melt the snow on contact. I’m sure it will cool off as the snow gets going and the forecast is for 3 or 4 inches with a return to winter temperatures once the storm goes by. We had enjoyed a few nice early spring days this week with sun and the gradual warm up we need. As always if you do not like the weather in New England just wait a minute and it will change.
Yesterday morning on our morning walk we saw the first woodcock of the spring, the field across the street was covered with robins and you could hear them singing. The day before that I had led a family from Wales on a snowshoe trip through our woodlot on a pleasant sunny afternoon, there are still a couple of feet of snow in the woods even though a good part of the fields are clear. I also took them to visit one of the local maple sugar houses where we saw the sap being boiled. We stopped at a sugarbush on the way home where they had a chance to see the sap collecting operation. A nice trip on a delightful afternoon and I am sure a once in a lifetime experience for that family.
